If I were a winemaker fortunate enough to have vines in the Montrachet vineyard, this is exactly the style of Montrachet that I would produce! The 2023 Laguiche is pure magic in the making, delivering a stunningly beautiful bouquet of pear, golden delicious apples, lemon, crème pâtissière, almond, chalky soil tones, vanillin oak and a lovely floral topnote of citrus blossoms. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied, precise and seamless, with beautiful depth of fruit at the core, superb mineral drive and grip, an excellent spine of acidity and laser-like focus on the long, complex and perfectly balanced finish. A great, great wine in the making! (Drink between 2031-2075)

The near-perfect nature to the nose suggests superb chardonnay. There’s a golden hue to the ripeness of the fruit, offering apple tart and fresh apples, together with undertones of stones, light vanilla and almonds. Medium-bodied with elegance and length, delivering energy and focus and subtle complexity. Hazelnuts and minerals at the end. Drink or hold.

Glowing mid lemon. The nose is quite restrained. The majesty of the Montrachet builds slowly on the palate with a fine thread of acidity to keep the intensity of fruit in place. All in white fruit, much less exotic, not yet really showing all its paces, so expect much more from this later on in its life. The length shows that it will happen. Drink from 2033-2045. Tasted Nov 2024.

Almost impossibly lush, with pronounced aromas of ripe melons and passionfruit, accented with notes of acacia flowers and butter. Despite the concentration of fruit aromas, the texture remains elegant and balanced. The grapes are from an enormous holding at the northern end of Montrachet, pressed as whole clusters and aged over two winters in cask (30% new); this was tasted out of a three-year-old cask. To judge from recent experience, it is best to leave this 20 years before opening, if one can wait.(CC)

Notes

Bill Nanson Burgundy Report: "Here is impressive depth of aroma – tighter, higher, tones today. Cool, a wine that starts calm and collected, beautifully silky, and slowly grows, making its presence notable with a small wink here, an anecdote there – slowly taking hold and directing the conversation – really large in the finish and holding. Also a wine that’s going to get better with elevage – but the presence is already clear – Montrachet!"(01/2025)
