2021 Cristom "Eola Springs Vineyard" Eola-Amity Hills Pinot Noir

Int'l Wine Review

The 2021 Pinot Noirs from Cristom are the best I have tasted from the estate. It’s hard not to fall in love with each one of them. The 2021 Eola Springs Vineyard boasts a light to medium shimmering ruby core with a bluish rim and is sublimely floral on the nose. Fermented with 48% whole-cluster and then aged in 40% new French oak barrels, it has developed a great depth and purity of fruit that shines through on the nose and on the palate. Dusty earth, wild huckleberry, blue plums, chopped dried herbs, and orange pith notes are focused and delicious. It finishes with rounded sweet tannins and expansive acidity.

Very soft and floral nose, the fruit in here is red and crunchy with a lot of spice on the finish. The palate is similar, with somewhat crunchy fruit with really great acidity and just a light grip of tannin, but a grip nonetheless. While the nose was more soft cherry and underripe raspberry, the palate is darker cherry, raspberry, a little pomegranate seed, and then it goes into the spice again. This is just lovely, and having tasted it with a couple other Cristom wines, the beauty is how unique and vineyard specific they all are. This has a bit of a savory mid-palate and is definitely a top contender for a holiday wine pick, very versatile, but definitely something I would prefer with food. Highly recommended.
