James Suckling
Review Date: 08/2024Very attractive aromas of salted nuts, together with ocean breeze, light dried apple and honey. It’s medium-bodied with dried-fruit and honey flavors. Very intense and flavorful with a fantastic finish. Gorgeous. A benchmark for Manzanilla.

Notes
Renowned winemakers Willy Pérez and Ramiro Ibañez revived the historic M. Antonio de la Riva label as part of their almacenista project, reconnecting forgotten soleras with their vineyard origins. Founded in the early 20th century, Manuel Antonio de la Riva was a key figure in Jerez, advocating for the region and its producers. Pago Miraflores is one of the most celebrated pagos in Sanlucar, facing west on three different type of albariza (chalk) soils. Cool winds blow off the Atlantic, which helps keep the acidity high and adds a brightness to wines made from this vineyard. Palomino grapes are hand-harvested in mid-September, fermented in steel tanka on the lees and then biologically aged under flor for an average of 3.5 years in a traditional 1/12 solera system. A once-annual saca typically yields about 1500 bottles with a natural alcohol level of 15%.
