Unique aromas of beeswax, lilacs, honey and a hint of green strawberries. It’s medium-bodied and very solid, with ultra-fine tannins and a long, long finish. It shows drive and tension. Racy flavors of crushed stones and seashells, with a hint of salt at the end. Made in cement. No wood.

Lunita comes from a single vineyard of the same name that also supplies grapes for Chacra’s Mainqué Chardonnay. Slightly more tannic than the bodega’s other Pinots, it only uses grapes from silt soils. Plum, bramble and wild strawberry flavours combine on the palate here with extra grip from ageing in concrete, notes of mint, fennel and subtle reduction and a pithy, energetic finish.

From a two-hectare parcel established in 1945 on silty soils, the 2024 Lunita was vinified exclusively in epoxied 1,500-liter cement vats, making it the only Chacra Pinot Noir that sees no influence from wood. It opens with a floral and focused bouquet energized by citrus rind and black cherry aromas, introducing a dense yet lifted, measured and succulent palate. It concludes with a deep, elegantly dense finish with more substance but less dimension and complexity than the other vineyard-designate bottlings in the Chacra lineup. (ML)

Notes

Lunita is made from a very old, un-grafted, tiny vineyard. In prior years, the grapes of the Lunita vineyard were destined to Barda, but as the vineyard was nourished back to life, it showed the quality to stand on its own. Lunita’s grapes are picked early in the morning and are fermented in an open cement tank with 100% whole clusters. The wine then ages for 11 months in concrete tanks.
