Expert levels of integration are going on throughout this bottling, starting with the subtle yet persistent aromas of raspberry, cranberry, potpourri, and light sagebrush that draw in the nose. The palate’s firm texture elevates the cherry compote, citrus rind, and strawberry cream flavors, with a lingering sense of violets painting the corners. This wine will be exciting to watch for years. *Cellar Selection* (MK)

Even at this early stage of evolution, it’s giving and alluring, with aromas and flavors of forest berries, cherries, rose hips and oak duff. The taut, energetic, slightly saline palate shows woodsy spices and minerality, harmony and length. Impressive. This has a long life ahead. Drink or hold, but no rush. (BF)

Notes

Sea Smoke launched in 1999 when Bob Davids set out to craft world-class Pinot Noir from the fog-kissed slopes of Sta. Rita Hills. The estate spans 350 acres, with 105 acres planted to Pinot Noir and Chardonnay across 26 blocks. Ten clones, six soil types, and elevations from 300 to 700 feet give winemaker Don Schroeder a complex canvas to work with. Farming is organic, biodynamic, and now regenerative. The first vintage dropped in 2001, and the wines quickly gained a loyal following.
