2024 Aurore Dezat Sancerre

2024 Aurore Dezat Sancerre

Review Date: 03/2026

This is one of my favorite Sancerre estates and they never disappoint. Their 2024, is another winner. It combines the classic citrus fruit we're accustomed to with pleasant tropical notes thanks to the generosity of the vintage. Simply put, it's complex, satisfying and outstanding as always.

This pear and guava fruit dominant Sancerre also retains its classic elements of lime and grapefruit, as in past vintages. The finish lingers a bit, and this is where you are rewarded with lemon zest and lightly crunchy minerals. This is also a more versatile bottling due to the more generous fruit. No need to just have it with shellfish! A grilled chicken or stuffed pork chop will be equally at home with this wine. So would scalloped potatoes and root vegetables.

Notes

The wines of Aurore Dezat are a regular feature in our wine club offerings, and her vibrant Sancerre is an easy favorite among K&L staff as well. Aurore makes wine on her family estate in Sury-en-Vaux, which was established by her grandfather. Before Aurore took over the estate, most of the fruit was sold off through négociants. She has slowly phased out the négociant contracts. The estate is more than just vines, with grain crops and farm animals also finding a home there, but for Aurore, the focus is on the wine. She farms organically and emphasizes the importance of the three soil types present on the estate. With her grapes growing on limestone, flint (or silex), and clay, Aurore can produce wines that have a real depth of character.
