The 2021 Bussia from Einaudi has intense balsamic aromas of camphor that mingle with mature red berry, underbrush and dark spice. Full-bodied and powerfully built, the palate delivers ripe Morello cherry, spiced raspberry, licorice and tobacco set against a firm, tannic backbone and fresh acidity. Give this time to fully come together. (KO)

The mid-weight Poderi Luigi Einaudi 2021 Barolo Bussia is a little shy on first nose and will need more time in bottle. This is a good sign for the wine's future aging potential. You get a glimpse of the aromatic complexity on hand with delicate berry fruit tones, cinnamon and licorice root. There is an elegant earthy intensity that I often associate with the Bussia cru. Only 8,146 bottles were created. (ML)

The 2021 Barolo Bussia is a gorgeous, expressive Barolo. All the breadth of Bussia comes through in the glass, with the more laid-back, mid-weight style that is now the house signature. Deeply spiced notes meld into a core of dark red fruit. Lifted and aromatic, with understated power, the 2021 is wonderfully complex and dynamic. (EG) 94+

A bright and well-delineated version, offering cherry, raspberry, floral, iron and wild herb aromas and flavors. Supple, beautifully balanced and long on the extended, linear finish. This red is open now; however, don't be surprised if this closes down for some time. Best from 2028 through 2046. 722 cases made, 100 cases imported. (BS)

Notes

Sourced from the historic Bussia cru in Monforte d’Alba, this single-vineyard Barolo reflects Einaudi’s elegant yet structured house style. The 2021 vintage was cool and long, contributing to a wine of tension and refinement. Aged in a combination of large Slavonian and French oak casks, it shows classic aromas of red cherry, rose petal, sweet spices, and iron. The palate is focused and linear, with finely woven tannins and vibrant acidity framing flavors of pomegranate, licorice, and crushed stone. A serious and age-worthy Barolo that honors one of the appellation’s great terroirs. Best from 2028–2040.
