Review Date: 01/2025Ruby with a purple edge. A beautifully perfumed bouquet, this is much more fluid, fruit-driven, with fewer tannins and without much of the saline note. This should not take too long to come round. Their holding of Corbeaux is within a clos of three walls, the open side facing the Combe de Lavaux. Drink from 2029-2035. Tasted Nov 2024.

Notes of dark berries, cherries and incense introduce the 2023 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Les Corbeaux, a medium-bodied, supple and seamless wine that's once again very charming and elegant. The Trapets began bottling it separately with the 2022 vintage.
The Trapet family has produced an attractive set 2023s. As readers will remember, there have been a host of changes at this address in recent years: in 2020, fully seven hectares of the domaine's holdings were converted both to échalas and to higher trellising stakes and wires, depending on the steepness of the slope. Since then, changes have been rolled out in other parcels too. Given the extent of Trapet's holdings in prime climats, that means that the walk from Morey-Saint-Denis to Gevrey-Chambertin suddenly looks rather different. In the cuverie, winemaking continues to be classical, with important percentages of whole clusters, followed by élevage in ever diminishing percentages of new oak, with foudres joining barrels in the cellar.(WK)

A riper and markedly more deeply pitched nose is comprised by notes of poached plum, humus-tinged earth and much more sauvage character. There is more volume, if much less refinement, to the suave bigger-bodied and more powerful flavors that conclude in a lightly rustic and youthfully austere finale where the only reproach is a touch of warmth. This is very Corbeaux in style.*Burghound Outstanding!*

The 2023 Gevrey-Chambertin Corbeaux 1er Cru comes from vines planted in the 1960s. It has quite a succulent bouquet with dark cherry, raspberry and pressed violet scents, though there is a touch of reduction at the moment. The palate is medium-bodied with a sweet, slightly candied entry. It's quite open and generous, a little confit in style with a dash of white pepper on the finish. This is one of the more opulent cuvées from Trapet.(NM)
