2022 Domaine Philippe Gilbert Menetou-Salon Rouge
Notes
Winemaker Philippe Gilbert was a playwright in his early life (one of his productions, a contemplation on the horrors of the Srebrenica massacre in Bosnia, was performed in the U.S.). His winemaking seems to be informed by his life as a writer-narrative and full of tension. This rouge is 100% Pinot Noir planted on a mix of clay and limestone on a vein of Kimmeridgian marl that continues on to Sancerre, Pouilly-sur-Loire and into Chablis and Champagne. It is 70-80% destemmed depending on vintage, ferments in wood tronconic wood foudres where it spends 12 additional months. It then rests for 8-10 months in concrete tanks before bottling. At bottling, it undergoes a light fining with bentonite and is unfiltered. *Biodynamic*
