The Chablis AC from Monsieur Dauvissat is also excellent in 2023. This wine hails from a few different parcels, but the majority hails from a lieu à dit just below the premier cru of La Forest. The wine delivers an outstanding aromatic constellation this year, hopping from the glass in a blaze of lemon, green apple, oyster shell, a beautiful base of limestone minerality, citrus peel and a topnote of spring flowers. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied and again, sports truly exceptional acids for the vintage, with a superb core of fruit, excellent mineral undertow, excellent focus and grip and a long, complex and impeccably balanced finish. Great juice. 2025-2055.

The 2023 Chablis, with the majority of its fruit sourced from the vineyards near Vincent Dauvissat’s La Forest, is a notable success and one of the top performers of the appellation. Soaring from the glass with scents of citrus oil, pear and dried flowers, it’s medium to full-bodied and textural, with lively acidity and a mineral finish. If only all Chablis would taste like this! Vincent Dauvissat is one of the greatest vignerons in France, producing some of the most soulful wines not just in Chablis but across the entire Burgundy region. Dauvissat, who once considered a career as a shepherd, ultimately became a vigneron and, though technically retired, remains a vital presence at his eponymous domaine. His personality, both meditative and meticulous, is reflected in his wines, which, provided the cork holds well, are incredibly long-lived.(KK)

Classic pale colour with a green tint. This has the steely core one hopes for in Chablis, middleweight yet with fair concentration, adequate acid balance, a little oyster note. Fine long aftertaste. Drink from 2027-2033. Tasted Jun 2024.

Note: from a parcel that sits on the opposing hillside from La Forest. There is even more Chablis typicity present on the ripe and fresh aromas of Granny Smith, lemon rind and soft floral nuances. There is again good volume and richness to the attractively vibrant medium weight flavors that conclude in a highly refreshing finale. This would benefit from developing better depth so a few years of keeping should prove beneficial.
