Review Date: 06/2025Formely labelled as Reserva Especial, this varietal Tempranillo uses grapes from Urbina's oldest vineyards in Cuzcurrita. Aged in older American oak barrels, it's savoury, spicy and sweetly wooded, with alluring notes of aromatic spices, leather and red berries and a vibrant, mineral-etched core. Mature yet wonderfully fresh and alive.

Located in the northwestern edge of Rioja Alta, Bodega Urbina is a family-owned estate with a winemaking legacy dating back to 1870. Spanning four generations, the winery is renowned for its traditional approach and "old-school" philosophy, focusing on long-aged wines that prioritize elegance and complexity over modern, fruit-forward trends. Utilizing grapes exclusively from their 75 hectares of estate vineyards—primarily Tempranillo—they produce wines well-regarded for their remarkable acidity and longevity. Urbina is also unique for its extensive library of back-vintages, frequently releasing perfectly matured wines directly from their cellars decades after the harvest, offering enthusiasts a rare opportunity to experience the savory, tertiary notes of fully evolved Spanish wine.
