The 2022 Chassagne-Montrachet La Maltroye 1er Cru is a step up from the 2021 last year with captivating energy and mineralité, focused with gorgeous citrus fruit. The palate is very well-balanced, with a tangy entry and hints of marmalade infusing the citrus fruit with a stem ginger-tinged finish that has real race and energy. Fans out gloriously - a superb Chassagne in the making here. (NM)

This is moderately reduced and unreadable presently. There is slightly better volume and mid-palate density to the caressing but decidedly punchy flavors that terminate in an impressively long, well-balanced and dry-in-the-best sense finale where a hint of bitter lemon slowly emerges. Maltroie isn't typically more interesting than a quality Chenevottes but this one appears to be just that, at least now in any case.
