A Monopole of nearly 2ha, almost in the town of Charnay. 60 years old vines, made in a mix of stainless steel and foudre. Prettily grapey, does what it should from the start. Decent acidity, ripe apples, medium length. Showing well. Drink from 2026-2027. Tasted Jun 2025.

I always recommend the Mâcon-Charnay to customers seeking a richer, more yellow-fruited expression of White Burgundy. The 2024 Domaine Pascal & Mireille Renaud Mâcon-Charnay smartly harnesses the vintage’s racy acidity to frame generous orchard fruit and white flower notes. Richly textured and beautifully balanced, this is a tremendous value and an irresistible wine—especially at the price.

This Macon has everything I want for a daily-drinking Chardonnay. It has a very mineral driven nose, with hints of stone fruits and creaminess. The high quality of this wine, and the 2024 vintage, really come through on the palate. The flavors are concentrated while maintaining great vibrancy. If you like classic Chablis try this!

In contrast to the Macon Soultre, the Charnay has a more upfront fruited nose with the orchard fruits at the forefront, while the citrusy scents come in afterward. It does have the similar white flower scents of the Soultre but, the fruits are more yellow than white, though there are white fruits, for sure. The quite rich palate has mouth-coasting fruit of yellow apple, cream and white peach. Like the Soultre, the finish is more mineral driven and clean with bright citrus. These siblings are both mightily attractive in each their own way!

Notes

Domaine Renaud is a small operation in the town of Puissé making Mâcon, Pouilly-Fuissé and St. Veran from twelve hectares of estate vineyards. Their modern cellar uses upright ovals for many of the wines and stainless steel for others. The wines have long been customer favorites at K&L with their clean and fresh style, and their affordable price tags. With citrus and stone fruit profiles, zippy acidity, and a minerality that comes from their humble terroir, we think Renaud is one of the best entry-level Burgundy estates we carry at K&L.
