2017 Greer Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon (Winery Direct Library Release)

Review Date: 01/2026

Showing great aromatics of currants, hints of cassis, iron, truffle, and chocolate, as well as some damp underbrush nuances, the 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon is medium to full-bodied with a pure, layered mouthfeel and just about flawless overall balance. Based on 100% Cabernet Sauvignon and aged 19 months in 60% new French oak, it has fine tannins and a juicy, lively, delicious style with polished, ripe tannins. Drink 2026-2042.

Notes

A great location in the heart of Napa Valley gives the Greer Vineyard a host of top-flight neighbors: Rubicon, Scarecrow, and Phelps, to name just a few. But this small family winery doesn't rely solely upon their location, having enlisted well-regarded winemaker Aaron Pott (formerly of Quintessa) to craft the wine. Aaron has done his job so well that Greer has become a hard wine to purchase, selling out their small-production every vintage soon after release via their mailing list.
