Smelling of crushed stones, blackberries, forest floor and spice drawer, this is exuberant. Full in body with slightly pronounced alcohol, there is more of everything here. Most of the vines are quite old with a small bit having been replanted in 2014. They are located in Clos St-Denis and Les Chaffots.

Note: from a 1.48 ha holding in 3 different climats. A more elegant, spicier and even more floral-suffused nose is composed by notes of both red and dark cherry and a whiff of exotic tea. The super-sleek, delineated and utterly delicious medium-bodied flavors also possess a highly beguiling texture while displaying stunningly good length on the moderately austere, balanced and equally built-to-age finale. Sheer class.*Burghound Don't Miss!*

The 2023 Clos Saint-Denis Grand Cru is beautiful, unwinding in the glass to reveal aromas of cherries, raspberries, violets and spices. Medium to full-bodied, satiny and layered, it's fleshy and sensual, its pure core of fruit structured around powdery, melting tannins and lively acids, concluding with a long, saline finish. Domaine Dujac's 2023 harvest began with Les Folatières on September 1, followed by a five-day pause before resuming on September 6. As elsewhere, yields were generous, and alcohol levels range between 13.3% and 14%. The domaine's more spacious and better temperature-controlled new winery was surely an asset, and the 2023s are shaping up nicely, offering up expressive fruit as well as plenty of underlying structure. Readers, of course, will be familiar with the outlines of the Dujac approach to producing red Burgundy: organic farming, fermentation with a predominance of whole clusters (with some 20% to 30% destemmed this year) and élevage in barrels largely sourced from Tonnellerie Rémond.(WK)

A dense crimson purple. Fractionally reductive on the nose, rather firm as a result. Dark cherries on the palate, the reductive element continues. Harder to judge today. Slightly fuller and more cheerful at the finish, and this may yet grow further. Drink from 2032-2042. Tasted Nov 2024.

Notes

Bill Nanson Burgundy Report: "One of the largest owners here with 1.4 ha. Here is a little extra depth – a diffent, no less attractive, aromatic. Not quite as large as the Malconsorts but a rounder, more textural and concentrated wine. Despite the growth of finishing tannin, this is the best finishing flavour – I’m not sure it’s the longest but it still haunts the palate – it’s a beauty!"(09/2024)
