2023 Domaine Mee Godard Moulin-à-Vent Deschanes
94
James Suckling
Review Date: 03/2025Intense violet aroma and racy freshness for a Moulin-a-Vent. I love the interplay of fine tannins, elegant wet-stone acidity and restrained richness on the medium-bodied palate. Long, focused finish. The first vintage of this wine from a high-altitude section of this appellation with very stony, granitic soil. Drink or hold.

The 2023 Moulin-à-Vent Deschanes comes from a 0.7-hectare parcel on sandy soils, located close to but at a higher altitude than Au Michelon. It has an open, transparent bouquet with airy red fruit tones. The palate is slightly chalky in texture with a touch of pure, tart red cherry fruit, light grip and a bright, crunchy finish. Drink this over the next five or six years.(NM)
Notes
Bill Nanson Burgundy Report: "A new parcel here – not yet organic like other parcels here. Deeper, darker fruit with a faint saline accent. Fuller, more generous style after the Morgon – lots of sucrosity to this fruit flavour. Very wide finishing – that’s a delicious thing…"(01/2025)
