This deeply satisfying Bourgogne boasts a deep ruby colour and forward aromas of ripe cherry and wild strawberry. The structure is supple, with firmish tannins, good freshness and concentration on the palate that suggest this could also age. The vines are all in the Gevrey village limits, east of the Route Nationale. The domaine owns 5ha here that were purchased in the 1960s; some of the vines were planted then. The grapes are mostly destemmed before a gentle fermentation and aged in mainly used casks to produce this exemplary wine.(NM)

Note: from vines in Gevrey. A wonderfully fresh and bright nose speaks mostly of various red berries and discreet earth nuances. The delicious lighter weight flavors possess both good precision and a touch of rusticity on the clean and dry finale that is supported by just enough tannin to reward a few years of keeping.

The Bourgogne was being bottled on the day I visited, though the sample had been taken first. Fresh pink to purple colour. Quite a tense fresh raspberry pinot on the nose. Sharp acidity, acidulated raspberry, very tight, but the fruit quality is very good. Drink from 2026-2028. Tasted Dec 2024.

The 2023 Bourgogne Roncevie, completely destemmed and recently racked, presents a pretty nose of redcurrant, cranberry and a touch of iris flowers. The medium-bodied palate offers pliant tannins and sweet black cherries with a hint of vanilla on the finish. Enjoy this over the next three or four years.(NM)

Notes

Bill Nanson Burgundy Report: "Usually 35k bottles from the more than 5 ha.Bright and more focused – that’s a fine invitation. A little more taught, extra, very fine tannin – a velour. That’s going to be a great Bourgogne – well done!"(01/2025)
