Note: from young vines in Santenots. Ripe aromas include those of black cherry liqueur, kirsch, anise and a hint of violet. Here too the medium weight flavors are rich, concentrated and velvety with equally good minerality adding a similar sense of lift on the slightly longer and firmer finale. Moreover, this well-made effort possesses very good development potential, which is to say out to a decade. This too is worth considering.*Burghound Outstanding top Value!*

This village cuvée is made from the youngest vines of 1er Cru Santenots, planted in 2002 and 2015. Fine bright mid purple. A fresh bright red fruit with some density. Clean dark berry fruit, good acidity here, plenty of energy and a Volnay class in the fruit. More exuberant from an unracked barrel. Drink from 2027-2034. Tasted Oct 2023.

The 2022 Volnay Village was almost completely de-stemmed and comes from the young vines in Santenots. It has a perfumed nose of black plum, raspberry fruit, and a touch of dried iris flower. This Volnay has crunchy tannins and pure black fruit with a slightly chalky textured finish. Lots of depth, considering this is a Village Cru, perhaps betraying its Santenot origins.(NM)

A cuvée produced from young vines in Les Santenots, the 2022 Volnay Village exhibits aromas of sweet red berries, plums and petals, followed by a medium-bodied, satiny and charming palate. This will drink well pretty much on release. The first produced under the direction of Léa and Pierre Lafon, the 2022 vintage has turned out very well at this address, delivering both quality and reasonable quantity, a welcome change after the vicissitudes of 2021. For now, no big changes are afoot, and Dominque Lafon continues to be a guiding presence—organic and biodynamic farming in the vineyards, barrel fermentation for whites, two winters' élevage on the lees for both colors, and bottling under Diam technical corks (since 2013) continue to be the order of the day. What's new this year are two attractive cuvées of Puligny-Montrachet, the fruit of a sharecropping agreement.(WK)
