2023 Seña Bordeaux Blend Valle de Aconcagua

Decanter
Review Date: 07/2025What a knockout wine from Seña this year. Szechuan pepper spice on the nose, some chocolate notes, tobacco bell peppers and black cherry. High acidity makes the first mark, piercing and alive, so up front and forward with a dollop of ripe, almost sweet strawberry fruit, with a mouthwatering element that just makes you smile. Confident and so characterful. I love this wine, and could drink this all day. The length is incredible but the sense of energy and precision is also amazing as well as delivering a real push of flavour and complexity. Sheer brilliance. 6% Petit Verdot completes the blend. Director Eduardo Chadwick, winemaker Emily Faulconer. (GH)

Notes
Widely regarded as Chile’s first “cult” wine, Seña was established in 1995 through a groundbreaking collaboration between Eduardo Chadwick of Viña Errázuriz and the legendary American winemaker Robert Mondavi. Their shared vision was to craft a Chilean red that could stand shoulder to shoulder with the world’s finest. This partnership marked Chile’s first international joint venture in winemaking, uniting two iconic families. The inaugural 1995 vintage was met with immediate acclaim, cementing Seña’s reputation from the very start. Since 2005, the estate has been fully owned and managed by the Chadwick family, continuing to amass accolades—including multiple perfect 100-point scores. Today, this rare vertical, with 99–100 point scores across the board, represents not only the pinnacle of Chilean winemaking but also a place among the world’s greatest wines.
