Review Date: 08/2025Although this has excellent ripeness, it remains cool with floral delicacy. Focused with a core of velvety tannins on the sleek, medium-bodied palate. The long finish has a touch of licorice. From a site just above the grand cru Bonnes-Mares.

Mid purple, a supple elegance on the nose. More fluid than the Marsannays. The oak sits prettily on top of the graceful red fruit, with a little coconut too. A fine finish, not massively concentrated, and lower acidity than some years, but this will make a most attractive bottle of Chambolle. Drink from 2027-2032. Tasted Nov 2024.

Aromas of rose petals, orange zest and red berries introduce the 2023 Chambolle-Musigny Les Veroilles, a medium-bodied, lively and ethereal wine that perfectly reflects this higher-altitude, stony terroir, concluding with a mouthwateringly saline finish.
This is another terrific vintage for Domaine Bruno Clair, delivering wines of striking purity and transparency. As I wrote last year, farming is now very close to organic across the 24-hectare estate; yields are being limited more strictly in the younger parcels; superior vine genetics are being T-budded onto existing plantings; cover crops are the order of the day, with the frequency of cultivation reduced; trees are being incorporated within all new plantings; and now, in the winery, whole clusters are being systematically retained in significant percentages, while the frequency of punching down has reduced. What are the results? The pure-fruited style of the domaine, which doesn't push ripeness or percentages of new oak, remains very much intact, but it's actualized with more intensity of flavor and more expressive, vibrant fruit. That this holds true even with a comparatively abundant Pinot Noir crop is a validation of the work being done.(WK)

The 2023 Chambolles-Musigny Les Veroilles has a well-defined bouquet with mainly red fruit. An appealing mineralité comes through with aeration. The palate is well balanced with good concentration and firm grip, lightly spiced with a touch of sour cherry on the slightly short finish. Give this two or three years in bottle.(NM)

Notes
Bill Nanson Burgundy Report: "Just above Bonnes-Mares, ‘it suffers a lot in the hot vintages.’ Lots of limestone here, similar to En la Route de Vergy. Very pretty top notes – a small but very elegant aromatic. A little extra shape to this structure – almost architectural – this finish broad and heartwarming – it’s just so delicious wait 2 years for it, then enjoy…" (01/2025)
