Staff Reviews

We have an incredible trio of sub-AVA Cabs from Martin Ray on offer today. For many years Martin Ray have sourced exceptional parcels of fruit from across Napa Valley in beyond based on decades of relationships in the business. The Diamond Mountain, Howell Mountain, and Mount Veeder bottlings represent the pinnacle of their production sourcing the best-of-the-best barrels for the small-production, AVA specific wines. The Howell Mountain bottling comes from one of the highest elevation sites on the mountain sitting above 2,200ft. The vines grow in compressed volcanic ash, or "tuff", lending explosive aromatics and a distinctive minerality to the wine. The vineyard's reputation dates back to it's first planting back in the 1950s. The current vines are fully mature at 30-years of age and producing highly concentrated fruit. Classic Howell fruit with blackcurrant, plum, graphite, espresso, suave and sophisticated oak tones meld with the lush, deep fruit. Broad and powerful with great underlying mineral tones and a muscular structure for 10+ years of ageing potential. What an amazing price for this single vineyard Howell Mountain Cab! Our long relationship with Martin Ray allows us to bring you these incredible wines, with massive scores to you at very reasonable price points. Enjoy!
