For many years Martin Ray have sourced exceptional parcels of fruit from across Napa Valley in beyond based on decades of relationships in the business. The Diamond Mountain, Howell Mountain, and Mount Veeder bottlings represent the pinnacle of their production sourcing the best-of-the-best barrels for the small-production, AVA specific wines. The Diamond Mountain bottling comes from one of the most historic sites in the region. Previously known as Constant Diamond Estate, this vineyard has a legacy dating back to the 1890s. Planted at the top of Diamond Mountain at 2,200ft elevation, many vines are terraced into the steep volcanic hillsides. The wine is fermented in small fermenters and matured 60% new French oak for 18 months. The wine has a vibrant, inky purple color, notes of graphite, lavender, tobacco box. The fruit is focused and pure, cassis, mulberry, and some briary tones add savory complexity. Quite structured and serious with a clear upside for ageing and positive development in the cellar for 5-8-10 years or more.
