2024 Domaine Zafeirakis "Microcosmos" Malagousia Tirnavos Greece
Notes
Following his family in the tradition of winemaking, Christos Zafeirakis began his practice and study of wine in Italy. When he returned home, he established his winery in the foothills of Mount Olympus, the seat of the Greek gods and one of the most historic wine producing regions in Greece. One of Christos' main goals was to reestablish the nearly extinct grape variety, Limniona as well as elevate the quality of the indigenous grape, Malagousia. Christos began organic practices back in 2005 and introduced biodynamics to his vineyards on 2019. The siganature "Microcosmos Malagousia" is all from the Paleomylos Vineyard which is composed of sandy-clay soils with a high flint content. The vines average 20 years of age and the grapes are fermented in stainless steel tank all with native yeasts. The flinty soils help lend minerality to this vibrant and lightly floral white. A great aperitif and even better with rich fish dishes.
