Intense, a reminder of how Latour sets the benchmark for how to respond to hot vintages over in Pauillac. There is a muscular set to the tannins, woven through delicate slate and crayon edge, with touches of fragrant fennel and aniseed, black tea, chamomile, crushed roses, excellent quality. Lastly, the Grand Vin is a heavenly wine that offers a quintessential Latour bouquet of pure crème de cassis, graphite, lead pencil shavings, tobacco, and a liquid rock-like minerality. It shows a touch of the riper, sexy style of the vintage, yet still stays tight and compact on the palate, with full-bodied richness, fine yet building tannins, flawless balance, and a great finish.
