The 2022 Romanée-Conti is an extraordinarily lovely wine, boasting profuse red and black fruit, spice and floral notes. This wine was one of the revelations of the 2022 en primeur tastings. Today it seems less open and approachable than La Tâche at this stage, and shows a bit more influence from the cask. This wine is still sublime and doubtless will reopen to seduce with its charms, but at this point the magnificence of the 2022 La Tâche surpasses it. 8,332 bottles produced in 2022.(CC)

At some point in its evolution, the Romanée-Conti may provide its imbibers with a rare experience. It is certainly close to perfection, featuring rose, strawberry and cherry flavors aligned with a fleshy, juicy profile. Expressive, yet refined and superlong, it delivers a little more extra.

Dazzling on the nose with wild forest berries, Marasca cherries, brewed coffee, brown spice and rose buds, this is almost "loud" it is so forwardly aromatic. The structure is well-knit and robust, yet it feels as if is just slightly sticks out from the impressively concentrated, roaringly youthful fruit. This is majestic, bewitching and long on flavor. A remarkable wine, de Villaine says that this will stay in barrel longer than the others.

Romanée-Conti can be a rather elusive, at times intellectual wine. There are no such issues with the 2022. Dark and powerful in feel, the 2022 Romanée-Conti has some of the brooding intensity of the Richebourg but delivers with a touch more grace, a touch more elegance. Savory and floral overtones weave through a core of dark-toned fruit in a Romanée-Conti that impresses with its substance and overall feel. Magnificent.(AG)

Notes

98pts Neal Martin writing for Vinous: "The 2022 Romanée-Conti Grand Cru was picked on 1 September at 37.3 hL/ha. It is not quite as deep in color as the La Tâche. But in another way, this is more immediate and comes out with all guns blazing, a kaleidoscope of red berry fruit, crushed stone, cumin, traces of Earl Grey and undergrowth. The palate is framed by filigree tannins that lend this Romanée-Conti unerring symmetry. Satin-textured, refined and graceful, this is not understated but imbued with a sense of effortlessness. The 2022 is a profound Romanée-Conti that will last for decades. 694 cases produced."(02/2025) Bill Nanson Burgundy Report: "A little more delay in readiness like some of the earlier wines – lots of scale here and with a seamless impression that becomes finer and finer with air. Hmm, the silkiest of all – bubbling with energy, a faint caramel in this world of complexity. The last flavours like a long beam of light, wrapped on a slightly zesty grain of bitters – there seems more scale to this wine than LT – and it is sometimes like that… Super impressive, certainly great wine…"(02/20250
