2016 Anna Maria Abbona "San Pietro" Barolo Riserva
93
James Suckling
Review Date: 09/2024Lots of tar, blueberry and balsamic aromas with a full body, chewy tannins and a juicy finish. Plenty of tannins to this. More traditional nature with solid tannins. Needs some time to soften. Better after 2022.

Notes
From a rising star of Monforte d’Alba, the 2016 Anna Maria Abbona “San Pietro” is a stunning Barolo Riserva from a legendary, five-star vintage. After nine years of patient aging in cask and bottle, this wine is just beginning to reveal its profound depth and complexity. The nose is wonderfully aromatic and classic, with notes of sour cherry, dried rose, and tar, layered with hints of licorice, iron, and crushed mint. On the palate, it’s full-bodied and immensely structured, with a massive framework of firm, noble tannins and vibrant acidity that promises decades of evolution. The finish is exceptionally long and resonant. A true cellar treasure for the patient Nebbiolo collector.
