The 2019 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva launches from the glass with a mix of crushed black raspberries, underbrush, tobacco and sage. It balances silken textures with vividly ripe wild berry fruits and citrus-tinged spices, all guided by juicy acidity. It finishes with staining length and concentration, leaving edgy tannins and a resonance of salted licorice, yet it remains energetic and spry. (EG)

A very classic riserva, showing a smoky and complex style, depth of licorice and lush black-cherry fruit. The attack is firm yet balanced with juicy acidity and slightly grainy to velvety tannins. Full-bodied, it shows potential for aging but is ready to drink now as well.

The 2019 Ferrero Brunello di Montalcino Riserva is a powerful testament to the greatness of the vintage and the specific warmth of the Pascena terroir. Claudia Ferrero works in the southern sector of Montalcino, near Sant'Angelo in Colle, and her wines are known for their honest, robust character and incredible generosity. In a 5-star vintage like 2019, this Riserva shines with absolute confidence. It takes the natural richness of the southern exposure and frames it with the impeccable structure of the year. The nose is deep and brooding, offering layers of blackberry jam, cured tobacco, new leather, and dark chocolate, all lifted by a distinct balsamic freshness. A fantastic value for a Riserva from such a heralded year.

Notes

From the stellar 2019 vintage, the Ferrero Brunello di Montalcino Riserva is a profound and beautifully structured expression of Sangiovese from this rising star estate. A wine of immense potential, this is built for the long haul. The nose is deep, pure, and complex, with a classic profile of sour cherry, dried rose, and orange peel, layered with powerful notes of licorice, tobacco, and crushed limestone. On the palate, it’s full-bodied and powerful yet remarkably elegant, with a dense core of pristine red fruit framed by a massive wall of firm, noble tannins and vibrant acidity. The finish is exceptionally long and resonant. A benchmark Brunello with decades of life ahead; cellar for at least 5-7 years.
