Int'l Wine Review

Review Date: 01/2024

A glistening medium ruby core with a light blue rim in the glass, the 2019 McDonald Mountain Pinot Noir spent 15 months in 40% new French oak barrels. Crunchy red and black fruits pop on the palate alongside notes of sea breeze, cinnamon spice, dried herbs, and fresh lavender flowers. It finishes with plentiful acidity and moderate levels of tannin. About 600 cases were produced. (JY)

From a vineyard in the southern part of the Russian River Valley near Sebastopol, with pure Goldridge soils. This wine is so attractive and distinctive. I've drunk it numerous times and always found it compelling. The nose has effusive aromas and black raspberry and cherry, dried rose petal, clove, nutmeg, bay laurel and a distinct note of pine needle...just like the first few days you have a new Christmas Tree in your house and every time you come home it has that wonderful fresh smell. A very complex wine with lots of fruit, but also plenty of layers of complexity and intrigue. This has at least 5-8 years of drinking ahead of it, so stock up at this ludicrous price!

The name Gary Farrell is synonymous with premium Pinot Noir and we're very fortunate to be able to offer several of these wines at exceptionally great prices. One of my favorites of the current line-up is this single vineyard Pinot Noir from Russian River. It offers pretty raspberry and cherry fruit in a soft frame with mild acidity and a fresh, flavorful finish. A tremendous value.

This is an absolute star! A nose of eucalyptus, mint, earth and cucumber peel. The palate offers a delightful softness and cooked red stone fruit. Earthy and complex. One to treasure!!
