Elegant yet effusive, with cherry, rose, strawberry and juniper flavors gliding gracefully on the silky palate. Underscored by minerally tar and leather notes, this red is long and refreshing, with firm yet plushly textured tannins emerging on the finish. Drink now through 2038. (AN)

Cedar and dried flowers with some plum and orange-peel aromas that follow through to a medium body, fine tannins and a crunchy finish. Just a hint of wood at the end. Holding on nicely but ready to drink now.

The 2018 Etna Rosso Riserva Rovittello Particella No. 341 lifts from the glass with a spice-box bouquet, mixing camphor with cloves, incense, black cherries, burnt orange and a dusting of cocoa. It’s lifted and finessed with silky textures over a wiry framework. Tart wild berry fruits saturate, and cedary spice resonates toward the close. The 2018 finishes structured and pleasantly bitter as hints of dark chocolate and blackberry linger on and on. This is an excellent effort in a challenging vintage. (EG)

Notes

Benanti "Rovitello - Particella 341" Etna Rosso is a distinguished single-vineyard wine crafted from Nerello Mascalese, with a small amount of Nerello Cappuccio, grown in the historic Rovitello vineyard on the northern slopes of Mount Etna. The "Particella 341" designation highlights a specific plot within this esteemed vineyard, known for its old vines and unique volcanic soil composition. The combination of high elevation, cool microclimate, and mineral-rich soils contributes to a refined and complex expression of Etna Rosso that embodies the distinctive characteristics of this terroir. The wine presents a captivating bouquet of red cherries, wild berries, and pomegranate, with elegant notes of dried roses, Mediterranean herbs, and a hint of smoky minerality. On the palate, it is medium-bodied and beautifully structured, with silky tannins and vibrant acidity that balance flavors of ripe red fruit, earth, and subtle spice. The finish is long and polished, marked by a savory, mineral-driven quality that reflects the volcanic essence of the vineyard.
