2023 Domaine Tabordet Sancerre

The 2023 Sancerre comes from a blend of parcels on chalky soils. It wasn't a great vintage, but it was easy with normal yields. This is transparent, gentle and floral, with pure apple fruit notes. The 2023 has a fine, delicate finish. (RG)

We have long been fans of the wines from Tabordet. Their Pouilly-Fumé has become a true benchmark in the category, sourced largely from prime holdings just across the river from Sancerre. For years, I had been asking for a small allocation of their Sancerre, and persistence finally paid off. The 2023 is classic in every sense, showing bright grapefruit and key lime layered with plenty of chalky minerality that reinforces its vibrant profile. Adding to the appeal, Tabordet is now certified both organic and biodynamic. They check every box—thoughtful farming, precision winemaking, and exceptional quality—at roughly half the price of comparable producers. A must-have and a very welcome addition to our Loire Valley program.

I'd often wondered about the Sancerre from Tabordet as we've only been able to secure their outstanding Pouilly-Fume in prior vintages. Thankfully I had the opportunity to taste this wine recently and it certainly didn't disappoint. It's an outstanding Sancerre that delivers the quality and refinement we've come to expect from this winery. It highlights bright lime citrus fruit and crisp acidity and represents a tremendous value in a challenging vintage.

Notes

Nestled in the village of Verdigny, Domaine Tabordet was run by brothers Yvon and Pascal Tabordet, who took the reins back in 1981. Yvon's son Marius and Pascal's son Gael have since joined the estate and now run the operation. With five hectares in Sancerre and 16 in Pouilly-Fumé, they work organically and biodynamically across the varied soils of both regions, creating some of the best under-the-radar wines in the Central Loire. *Biodynamic*
