Reviewed January 2024The 2022 Mercurey Village is a blend of two parcels planted in 1965 and 2017. This has a little more complexity than the Rully Rouge on the nose, a mixture of red and black fruit, hints of potpourri and brown spices. The palate is medium-bodied with white pepper-tinged red fruit, fine grip and a slightly savory finish. This is a charming, personality-filled Mercurey. Excellent.(NM)

A markedly more sauvage-suffused nose displays aromas of ripe dark cherry, iron-inflected earth and whiffs of crushed anise and oak toast. The mouthfeel of the medium-bodied flavors is much like that of the Rully in that the mid-palate is supple and seductive while the solidly powerful finish is unapologetically frank and rustic. This is very Mercurey in style.

Two plots one of which is very young, from 2017. Slightly lighter in colour than the Rully, agreeably perfumed, less density perhaps but it is attractive. Slightly savoury red fruit to finish. Drink from 2025-2028. Tasted Apr 2024.
