Schiavo Felsina Amaro (700ml)
Notes
Just outside the grappa-famous town of Bassano lies Costabissara, home to one of Italy’s quietly enduring distilling traditions. In the early 1800s, Domenico Schiavo roamed the Veneto countryside with a mobile still, crafting spirits on-site for farms, inns, and wineries. By 1887, his son Giuseppe established the family’s first permanent distillery—predating even the famed Jacopo Poli. Today, fifth-generation Marco Schiavo maintains the legacy, producing refined grappas, liqueurs, and inspired bitters under the family name. Amaro Felsina is a standout of this tradition, a versatile Venetian classic that bridges the worlds of digestivo and aperitivo. Crafted with sustainably sourced gentian root, rhubarb root, and orange peel, it delivers a lively interplay of bitter-sweet complexity and lifted spice. The medium amber hue glows with orange highlights, while the nose opens to bitter orange, wild herbs, sassafras, cinnamon, and a cascade of warm spice. On the palate, its lighter body and medium-to-low viscosity make it refreshing enough for a spritz, yet flavorful enough to sip neat or over ice after a meal. Balanced, fragrant, and deeply rooted in place, this is a bottle that brings a piece of Veneto’s artisanal spirit to your glass.
