2023 Our Lady of Guadalupe "Acolytes" Santa Barbara County Chardonnay
94
Decanter
Review Date: 10/2025Sourced from blue-chip vineyards in the Santa Barbara County AVA, this wine was aged for nine months in neutral French oak (50% new) and stainless steel, followed by an additional seven months before bottling. Bright and mineral-driven, it offers notes of white florals and honeycomb, with a slightly reductive hint of flint or tarragon that is both attractive and appealing. Lemon–lime, apricot, and white peach emerge on the palate, which is full and rich at the core yet laser-focused on a chalky, saline-mineral finish—an expression of the calcareous limestone that defines the area. Dave sees this wine as delivering ultimate respect to the consumer, offering access to wines of this calibre at an approachable price point, with the aim of leading them to graduate into the upper tier of the OLG portfolio. It is a smart proposition, and all it takes is a taste to understand the value it represents. (JC)
