A dense, juicy, textural and lively Cornas with notes of sweet cherries, raspberries, wild herbs and baking spices. It's medium-bodied with fine tannins providing a silky texture to the succulent fruit. Bright center-palate that’s full of tension and spicy energy, with peppercorns, wild herbs and stones. Mineral and vivid with a long, precise and pure finish.

The 2023 Cornas Granit 60 is similar to the Granit 30, only with more density and intensity. Black raspberries, cassis, spring flowers, graphite, and subtle spicy, meaty nuances all shine here, and it's a full-bodied 2023 that's beautifully balanced, elegant, and layered. Partially destemmed (70%) and aged in used oak, it's going to be another smoking value from this incredibly talented vigneron.

Granit 60 is considerably darker than Granit 30. This has lovely blackberry and cassis notes, with a touch of blackberry eau-de-vie. It has a good sense of ripeness, but finishes firm and dry on a solid base of tannin. A little texture comes from the stems, but overall this is about the fruit, which has good finesse. The finish is long. This is a compact – rather than massive – Cornas, but one with a good sense of balance and freshness. Drink young if you like Cornas tannins, or wait. One-third whole bunches, no new oak.(MW)

uicy grapefruit, orange blossom, red plum, fresh violet and stemmy nuances introduce the 2023 Cornas Granit 60. Rose petal and graphite add more complexity. Built around well-rounded tannins, the 2023 is a full-bodied, seductive Cornas that shines with outstanding purity, freshness and complexity. Vincent Paris continues to craft distinctive, ageworthy Cornas, as evidenced once again during my most recent visit. Now in bottle, the 2022s are brimming with concentration, complexity and structure, requiring extended time in the cellar to fully reveal their potential. While the 2022s are dark, brooding and dense, the markedly floral 2023s display more upfront charm at this early stage. They exhibit less apparent richness and concentration than the 2022s but instead offer greater vivacity and delicacy. Although stylistically quite different, both vintages stand on equal footing in terms of quality.(NG)

Notes

John Livingstone Learmonth The Cradle of the Rhone: "(cask) dark red; the nose has grunt factor, firm depth, mystery, an air of oxtail, acetate, varnish, cooked plums, means business. The palate attacks on a broad front, holds shapely content with a good level of richness that lingers, the tannins showing refined sandiness. The length is exuberant, as per the vintage. It’s a bustling, well filled Cornas without excess, finishes on a flavour of red fruit gums, dried herbs, a good welling up of juice on the aftertaste. From late 2026 or 2027. 2041-43 Oct 2024."
