2019 Fallet-Dart "Pur Meunier" Champagne

2019 Fallet-Dart "Pur Meunier" Champagne

This was the best new Champagne of my 2025 buying trip. It comes from two 80-year-old, massal selected plots of Meunier called Morlot and Les Chaillots in Drachy on the Fallet Dart estate. The Champenois, who rarely hype vintages, fancy 2019 as the best vintage since at least 2012, and perhaps 2008, and this early release is a confirmation of the incredible potential of this special year. This wine was made in stainless steel, has a white gold color, and a seductive aroma of crisp Anjou pear framed by fresh baguette. In the mouth it has the generosity and richness that Meunier is famous for, but without becoming heavy. The star here is the finish: it is incredibly long, expansive, and loaded with tarte tatin complexity, old-vine minerality, and dry savor—all displayed like a fanned-out peacock’s tail! This wine demonstrates just how noble Meunier can be when it comes from old vines, a careful winemaker, and is given enough time on the lees. Don't miss it- there was only one press load made!

I don't always like champagne made from 100% Meunier, but I truly enjoyed "Pur Meunier" from Fallet Dart. A rich wine full of acidity, this champagne has notes of orchard fruit, lime zest, and a distinct nutty flavor, complemented by a hint of smoke. A must-buy for Meunier lovers.
A pure and expressive take on Meunier that really shows why the grape matters in Champagne. Ripe red apple, pear, and gentle baking spice lead the way, followed by subtle notes of stone fruit and a faint earthy edge that adds complexity. The palate is rounder and more generous than the house’s blends, with a soft, cushioning texture balanced by lively acidity that keeps everything fresh and energetic. There’s a quiet confidence to this wine — characterful without being heavy, expressive without losing precision. Distinctive, food-friendly, and deeply satisfying, this is Meunier in its most honest and compelling form.

More and more 100% Meunier champagnes are hitting the market. The 2019 Fallet Dart Pur Meunier comes from Meunier growers in the far western Marne Valley where Meunier is the star grape. 2019 is considered one of the top champagne vintages of the last quarter century characterized by its ripe balanced fruit and outstanding acidity. On the nose and palate, full-bodied, fruit-forward, tarte tatin, orchard (apple) and stone fruit (peach and pear), fresh sourdough, citrus, raw almonds, ginger, baking spices, white cherry, with a stony minerality indicative of the two plots in Charly-sur-Marne from which the grapes are sourced.

Notes

Champagne Fallet-Dart is one of the oldest grower estates we feature, with documented family viticulture dating back to 1610. Based in Drachy, on the far western edge of Champagne, the domaine blends deep heritage with a notably modern approach to production. The Fallet and Dart families formally united the estate in 1970, when Geneviève Dart and Gaston Fallet created the Fallet-Dart label. Today the property farms roughly 47 acres and produces about 170,000 bottles annually. Winemaking combines stainless steel and used Burgundy barrels, with most cuvées undergoing malolactic fermentation while a small portion is blocked for long-ageing prestige bottlings. Even their entry wines receive extended lees aging—four years or more—resulting in rich, textural Champagnes built for complexity and value.
