Despite a hot vintage, this fruity, piercing Chablis holds a cooling crush of minerality at its core. Slimmer in profile than most of its vintage peers yet pulsating with crisp nectarine and apricot flavors, it's lovely young but should continue to improve through at least 2027 and hold longer still. Note: from 75+ year old vines. Based on the nose, this could be from nowhere else but Chablis with its quinine, petrol, oyster shell, lemongrass and algae scents that are trimmed in just enough wood to merit mentioning. The rich, sleek and solidly concentrated medium weight flavors possess excellent intensity as well as an abundance of sappy dry extract that buffers the firm acid spine supporting the clean, dry and youthfully austere finale where a touch of rusticity eventually appears. This is an excellent Chablis villages and recommended.*Burghound Outstanding Top Value!*

This used to be made from 118 year-old vines but they finally gave out so now they're using on average 60+ year-old vines and the result is stunning. This has the classic saltiness that is missing from many of the recent Chablis vintages with crisp acidity and lemon rind notes this feels like a Chablis from 2 decades ago! For under $30 this is a flat out steal and is absolutely shimmering with energy and verve.

Sometimes, I think it's a little bonkers to think about some aspects of wine production. To think that we get this from one of the most known and renowned wine regions in the world, it's old vines that are over 60 (maybe 75?) years old, and yet you can buy this for just $30. How does it taste? Oh yeah. The nose is rich, clean, and deep. There's nothing off, there's only just this little hint of oak somewhere in the background, a good place for it to be. The entire nose is a study in elegance and nuance, with a myriad of subtle notes. The standouts are a delightful apple, but it's both red and green, and a hint of pithy lemon, and then a delightful saline minerality. This has a depth that's just really alluring, the promise of the palate already showing in the nose. Texturally, the mouthfeel is really nice and round, no sharp edges with more oak showing up than on the nose. The fruit is lush and pretty, lots of green apple, that pithy lemon, and a strong saline and slightly chalky finish with a good but slightly restrained level of acidity. This is classic and lovely and everything right about Chablis, cannot recommend this highly enough.

Notes

Bill Nanson Burgundy Report: "The 118-year-old vines are now gone – ‘they weren’t a lot of the assembly but the rest are all older than 60…Good freshness – that’s a pretty nose. Direct, fluid, beautiful energy. A width of beautiful flavour – you sense the small amount of barrel in the finishing flavour. In 18 months it will be invisible – that’s a great wine."(10/2024)
