2021 Vigneti Repetto "Quadro" Timorasso Derthona DOC (Vintage Release)

This 2021 proves exactly why collectors are cellar-aging this grape. With just a couple of years in the bottle, the wine has begun to broaden, shifting from primary citrus into a deeper, more honeyed profile. You can start to detect those signature notes of chamomile, dried apricot, and that distinct, flinty minerality. It is textural, weighty, and profoundly complex.

What an expressive wine showcasing deep aromas yellow apples, Asian pears, Canary melon, cherimoya, lemon rind, with a wet flint & chalky minerality. Bottle age gave this wine a touch of nutlike character, while it maintains the refreshing laser focused acidity. At a nice equilibrium between pure enjoyment and subtle complexity.

The Repetto Derthona takes Timorasso to the next level. The extended aging on the lees has definitely added another dimension of flavor and complexity to the wine. Here, the classic honey character of the grape has emerged along with richness and texture. This outstanding white is excellent now yet will age well for many years to come. Serious white wine aficionados will certainly appreciate this world class bottling.

Notes

The 2021 Vigneti Repetto "Quadro" Derthona is a stellar, chiseled expression of 100% Timorasso from its native clay-limestone soils in Sarezzano. Following Gian Paolo Repetto's "ancient method, modern technology" ethos, this cuvée is fermented in stainless steel and aged for 12 to 15 months on its lees, followed by extensive bottle cellaring before release. The 2021 vintage is showing fantastic vertical evolution, pairing a medium-to-full body with a piercing, nervous acidity reminiscent of a dry, high-end Riesling. The nose delivers precise aromas of crisp white pear, lemongrass, and green apple, layered with subtle white pepper and an underlying, smoky flint minerality. On the palate, it is linear and intensely savory, driving into a phenolic, textured mid-palate and a long, salty finish laced with hints of saffron and wild fennel. It is drinking beautifully right now but possesses the structure to age gracefully for another five to eight years.
