There's just something about this 50-50 Sangiovese-Merlot blend that makes it absolutely irresistible. The fullness, the harmony, the intensity of aromas and the long, fruity persistency on the finish work together to produce one of the great modern super Tuscans.

Has lots of berry, coffee and spice character, with hints of black licorice. Full-bodied, with rich, chewy tannins and loads of chocolate, coffee and berry character. Lasts for minutes on the palate. Big and broad-shouldered. This is the best Siepi since its first vintage. Sangiovese and Merlot. Best after 2008. 2,500 cases made, 500 cases imported.

Notes

From the legendary 2004 vintage, a year lauded for its perfect balance and classic structure, this Castello di Fonterutoli “Siepi” is a monumental Tuscan red just now entering its prime. A 50/50 blend of Sangiovese and Merlot, this wine is a masterclass in power and poise. The nose is deep, dark, and incredibly complex, with a pure core of blackcurrant, dark cherry, and plum, intricately woven with notes of graphite, cedar, licorice, and fresh earth. On the palate, it’s full-bodied and impeccably structured, with formidable, fine-grained tannins and vibrant acidity that promise decades of further evolution. The finish is exceptionally long and resonant. A true cellar icon.
