Review Date: 01/2026Light Rosé in hue, the 2021 Sparkling Old Vine Zinfandel Bedrock Vineyard is a wine of real identity. Brambly red berry fruit, cedar, blood orange zest and bitter amaro herbs all unfurl in generous layers, with a bump of mid-palate heft that really pulls it all together through the long, lifted finish. It may sound like an oversimplification, but this wine really tastes like Zinfandel, and it really tastes like Bedrock Vineyard. Bottling with zero dosage lends such energy here. The history of making sparkling wines from Zinfandel in California goes back at least to the 1850's! This crisp, racy, vibrant Blanc de Noir from Under The Wire is sourced from 1888 planted Zinfandel (plus a few other varietals that are intermixed in this ancient field blend vineyard). The fruit is picked at low sugar / high acid levels perfect for making Champagne inspired, traditional method sparkling wines.
