2021 Riise "Doyen" Paso Robles Rhone Blend

Review Date: 08/2024The 2021 Doyen is more Grenache-based and is mixed with 18% Mourvèdre and 17% Syrah that was mostly destemmed and raised in 25% new 500-liter barrels. Red and black fruits, toasted spice, pepper, and savory herb and floral notes all define this beauty, and it's full-bodied, has a pure, layered mouthfeel, ripe tannins, and a great finish. Coming from a blend of the Shadow Canyon, Catapult, and Paderewski vineyards, it has a beautiful mix of richness and elegance. It will stand toe-to-toe with the finest Southern Rhônes out there and should have 10-15 years of prime drinking.

Notes
The Doyen bottling sits in RIISE's Rhône-focused Paso Robles lineup, centered on the style of red blends that has become a strength of the region. The 2021 vintage followed a notably dry Central Coast growing season, with lower yields reported across many Paso Robles sites.
