Notes
Ridge Monte Bello traces its roots to 1885, when Dr. Osea Perrone planted vineyards high in the Santa Cruz Mountains and built a stone winery that produced its first vintage in 1892. After decades of neglect following Prohibition, a group of Stanford engineers revived the site in 1959, leading to the first commercial Ridge Monte Bello vintage in 1962 under winemaker David Bennion. The wine’s global reputation was secured when the 1971 Monte Bello placed fifth at the 1976 Judgment of Paris, showcasing California’s potential to rival the great wines of Bordeaux.
