2018 Caveau de Bacchus Trousseau Arbois Cuvée des Géologues Trousseau Poussot
94
John Gilman
Review Date: 07/2023The 2018 Trousseau “Poussot” Cuvée des Géologues is from the first vintage where Vincent Aviet had to vinify the wines without his legendary father in the cellars, as Lucien Aviet passed away at the end of May in this year. No doubt Vincent made this vintage with a heavy heart, but the wine has turned out beautifully and is a laudable tribute to the life of Lucien. The bouquet is pure and beautifully complex already at age five, offering up a complex constellation of sweet dark berries, bitter chocolate, discreet botanicals, a gorgeous base of dark soil tones, woodsmoke, a whisper of lavender and a topnote of black tea. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, focused and very pure, with superb depth at the core, great soil inflection and grip, firm tannins and great balance on the long, complex and vibrant finish. The wine is more closed on the palate than the nose suggests, so further cellaring will definitely be a prerequisite to enjoying this wine at its peak. It is an absolutely superb bottle in the making! (Drink between 2031-2075) (JG)
