Review Date: 04/2023Concentrated with a ton of spice, bright and powerful dark cassis and bilberry fruit, and a saline kick on the finish. One of the real value wines of the vintage, has a huge sense of character, great architecture, and silky tannins.

Dark and ripe on the nose, tangy and fresh, a lovely clean, crisp aspect to the strawberry, red cherry and creamy vanilla blueberries giving freshness and cool minerality. Well delivered, has a style about this with definition and detail and above all really appealing acidity that gives lift and a lot of life. Should round out nicely offering lots of easy drinking appeal and unfussy enjoyment. 3.5pH. 3.7 g/L total acidity. Ageing for 12 months, 50% new barrels, 50% steel. (GH)

The second wine of Château La Gaffelière, the 2022 Clos La Gaffelière is a beautiful Saint-Émilion offering blue fruits, violets, and a touch of chalky earth and spice. Medium-bodied, pure, and layered, it has solid, ripe tannins and a well-balanced, elegant profile. Drink bottles over the coming decade.

Email KaiThe 2022 Clos La Gaffelière is graceful and finely detailed. Aromas of blackberry are lifted by flower petals and gentle spice, giving the wine an immediately inviting profile. On the palate, a distinct chalky minerality, a slight sweetness rounds out the fruit and softens the structure. The balance between freshness, texture, and subtle richness makes this an great second wine.

Email SimonThe 2022 Clos la Gaffelière bursts from the glass with an intense, youthful bouquet of blackberry liqueur, crushed violets, and sweet spice. Its palate is remarkably concentrated and plush, delivering waves of opulent black plum and cassis fruit with a modern, polished feel. A surprising line of freshness cuts through the richness, suggesting a balanced evolution and significant aging potential. The finish is long and dominated by dark fruit, leaving a lasting impression of a powerful yet impeccably crafted wine that will need time to fully unwind.
