I tasted this blind with about 20 other champagnes and English sparklings and it stood out for being so very charmingly pretty! It tasted like a sunny day in mid spring when the orchard is a petal cloud of snow blossom and heavy with buttercups, primrose and daffodil. Apple blossom. Breezy and fresh and dancingly light and pretty, like a slice of cinnamon-dusted apple pie. Big, loose-laced bubbles and lacy charm. It may be that the fruit in the base wines is just very ripe, but I suspect the dosage is fairly high. Nothing wrong with that. You could just as easily have this with a slice of sponge cake as you could with a little gougère or pâté-topped canapé. (TC)

The Belle Époque 2015 is just plain gorgeous. It’s a prestige cuvée, but it’s not about showing off—it’s more about elegance and subtlety. The nose is all poached pear, white peach, and soft floral notes like honeysuckle and acacia, plus just a hint of toast. The mousse is super silky, and the palate has this creamy texture balanced by citrus and almond. There’s candied ginger and chalk in the background, giving it some tension and lift. This is Champagne at its most refined, and while it’s perfect for special occasions, it’s also a bottle that invites you to slow down and really appreciate it.

Definitely a nose that comes at you brioche-first, like the center of a freshly cooked loaf with a little umami bump, then the fruit comes in with lemon curd, fresh green apples, and a little bit of quince. The palate is really crisp and clean, more brioche of course, but then really clean lemon over crisp red apple, and a long line of chalky minerality running through the whole sip. This is a delicious bottle of Champagne and perhaps my second favorite 2015 that I've had in the last couple years. This is really compelling in a friendly way, something I know that I could open for anyone who even kind of likes Champagne and they would find something they would love about it.
