Review Date: 11/2014The 2013 Vosne-Romanée “les Brulées” from Domaine Méo-Camuzet is another brilliant wine in the making. The superb and utterly classic nose wafts from the glass in a blend of black cherries, black raspberries, gamebirds, dark soil tones, fresh nutmeg, woodsmoke, cocoa and cedary wood. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied and laser-like in its focus, with great mid-palate depth of sappy black fruit, superb soil inflection, fine-grained tannins, ripe acids and outstanding focus on the very, very long and classic finish.

Once again there is a hint of green tea to the more complex and elegant aromas of rose petal, spice, red and dark cherry. There is an ultra-refined mouth feel to the intense, concentrated and overtly powerful flavors that possess plenty of minerality on the palate soaking finish that is restrained, impeccably well-balanced and strikingly long. This firmly structured dazzler is almost always a superb wine chez Méo and the 2013 version will only add to that reputation. *Outstanding*

Bright, dark red-ruby. Reduced aromas of cherry, raspberry and flinty minerality. Utterly suave and weightless in the mouth, conveying outstanding lift and punch to the flavors of red cherry, raspberry and flowers. Ripe tannins spread out to saturate the entire palate. There's a peppery element here that I did not find in the 2014, and it energizes the mid-palate while giving added grip to the long, vibrant finish. Still very closed, this wine may well merit an even higher score a decade down the road. (ST) 93+

The 2013 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru les Brûlées has what you might describe as a “steadfast” bouquet, perhaps just a little conservative and constrained at the moment. The palate is medium-bodied with a gentle grip in the mouth, red cherries, strawberry pastilles and a pinch of spice lending the finish personality and length. It will probably demand 4-5 years in bottle before it starts to reach its drinking plateau, but it will be worth the wait. (NM)
