Quite gold and intense in color. A powerful nose of quince, broom flowers and mint. Muscular palate for a white, with an almost tannic structure, a medium body, crunchy acidity and a tight finish. Savory, but will evolve with aging. Best after an extra year in the bottle.

Deep straw with an orange tinge. The apricot-skin note on the nose gives the skin maceration away immediately. Perfumed, spicy notes of Malvasia and stony minerality from Trebbiano with more than a hint of breadcrumbs. Light of touch and barely medium-bodied, this has refreshing lemony acidity and green apple and apricot on the palate. Great length. Transparent. (WS)

Made primarily from Trebbiano and Ansonica with a touch of skin contact, this textured, amber-hued white is a compelling expression of the Maremma terroir. Aromas of dried apricot, orange peel, wildflowers, and herbs lead into a savory, saline palate with gentle tannins. A standout choice for fans of natural orange wines. This is an orange wine for all, really approachable but will satisfy the more hard core orange wine drinkers.

Notes

The Ampeleia "Bianco di Ampeleia" Toscana IGT is an intriguing and elegant white wine from the Ampeleia estate, located in the Maremma region of Tuscany. Founded by Elisabetta Foradori and partners, Ampeleia is celebrated for its commitment to biodynamic farming and crafting wines that reflect the unique coastal terroir of this area. The Bianco di Ampeleia is made primarily from Trebbiano and Ansonica, two indigenous Mediterranean varieties that thrive in the warm, sunny climate near the Tyrrhenian Sea. The wine is produced using minimal intervention, with native yeast fermentation and aging in concrete, emphasizing purity of fruit and a connection to the land. On the nose, it offers aromas of citrus, stone fruits, and hints of wild herbs, with a touch of salinity that reflects its coastal origins. On the palate, the Bianco di Ampeleia is fresh and vibrant, with bright acidity and a clean, mineral-driven finish, making it a beautifully expressive wine with great versatility. Ampeleia’s focus on natural farming and winemaking practices is evident in this wine, which captures the essence of Tuscany’s coastal vineyards. The Bianco di Ampeleia is perfect for those looking for a crisp, refreshing white wine that highlights the elegance and authenticity of the region’s lesser-known grape varieties.
