Bright and cheerful, the 2023 Domaine Parent Bourgogne “Cuvée XIV” joyfully dances onto the palate, offering refreshing notes of raspberry coulis, rose petals, and a bouquet of freshly picked herbs. Red cherry and raspberry, with a fine hint of nutmeg, linger on the finish. With a Burgundian legacy spanning twelve generations, Domaine Parent is now led by sisters Anne and Catherine Parent, with the next generation already in training. One of Burgundy’s earliest adopters of biodynamic farming, the domaine is certainly one to watch. I can’t imagine a better introduction than the 2023 "Cuvée XIV"—it’s utterly delightful in every way, particularly considering its cost-to-pleasure ratio.

I feel like Domaine Parent make some of the easiest drinking Burgundies that we have, and to me that's a pretty huge compliment. These wines in general are all something I can hand to someone at the price point they're happy with and they'll enjoy the wine, they're all very approachable, even for someone who might not even know how they feel about Burgundy. This is absolutely no exception. For this price, you can really enjoy a high quality bottle, and this is that bottle. The nose has a little bit of darker fruit, just maybe a very light touch of plum or a little Bing cherry mixed in. The palate definitely has a touch of plum along with the raspberry and bits of strawberry, there's also a bit of barrel spice on the lingering finish, the fruit getting just a little creamy. Easy and approachable, this is what you want when you just want a wine to enjoy, not necessarily one to study, but while leaving study open just in case.

Notes

One of our favorite Burgundy producers, Domaine Parent is run by a pair of sisters, Anne and Catherine, who have pooled their inherited plots (long story short, it all started back in 1804 when Napoleon Bonaparte decreed that all assets and property left from a parent must be divided equally among the children, including vineyards in Burgundy) and continued on under the same family label. In Burgundy, the term “domaine” means the vines are owned by the producer, and Domaine Parent has holdings in Pommard, Beaune and Corton as well as a number of Chardonnay plots in Monthélie.
