Always a favorite producer for me! This newly released 2023 has deep red cherry fruit with an upper palate of cedar and subtle herbs. It is relatively mouth-coating and deep with a finish of black cherries and black raspberries. It is composed of all Pommard fruit! This is a supremely delicious wine.

I’m not sure whether Pomone was named after the pastoral 15th-century French opera composed by Robert Cambert or the Roman goddess of orchards, gardens, and fruitful abundance. Either inspiration suits this wine, because all of those notions shine through in the 2023 Domaine Parent Bourgogne Côte d'Or Rouge "Sélection Pomone." It’s delicate, layered, and almost lyrical—a sensory libretto that sets my heart and mind ticking away in unison. What am I tasting here? So subtle—a blessed potation of cherries, wild strawberries, violets, and juicy blood orange, with subtle hints of petrichor. Ethereal and romantic, with a lengthy finish of cherry, violet and wet stone that reveals its fine Pommard vineyard origins.

Such a pretty cherry on cherry nose, I really love it when this is one of the earlier notes I get when I stick my beak into the glass. There's bright red cherry and also a little touch of dried cherry in the back, along with some lightly dried green herbs, and then raspberry and stewed strawberry. The only tasting note I wrote down is "Wowie Zowie" so, I definitely liked this one the first time through and here I am again liking it all over again. The palate is fruit up front, and then a savory kind of core, with creamy barrel-spiced fruit coming back on the end, lots of cherry, raspberry, cranberry, and then the creamy fruit and vanilla all mingling together on the lingering finish. This is just such a drinkable and lovely bottle of Pinot Noir, I think that this is such a compelling bottle at this price, it's delivering everything you want and then just a little bit more I feel like. Just so good, do yourself a favor and get one.

Notes

The 2023 Bourgogne Côte d'Or Sélection Pomone is the special cuvée that comes from 50- to 60-year-old vines on the lower part of Pommard and undergoes lengthier barrel aging.
