The 2023 Pommard Les Epenots 1er Cru is, as usual a blend of "Grand" and "Petit" Epenots. This year, it includes 40% whole bunch. This has a lot of panache on the nose with raspberry, wild strawberry and wilted rose petal scents that blossoms in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-boned tannins, beautifully balanced with a slightly chalky finish. This is an outstanding Pommard from Anne Parent that should age gracefully in bottle.(NM)

Note: from both Grands and Petits in a roughly 50/50 proportion; 40% whole cluster. Moderate wood and menthol influences can be found on the ripe and quite floral-suffused aromas of poached plum and dark berries with just enough earth character to mention. The very rich, even opulent, medium-bodied flavors also conclude in a firm, serious, compact and powerful finish that should prove to be every bit as age worthy as the Chaponnières.*Burghound Sweet Spot Outstanding!*

The Epenots cuvée comes from both Grands and Petits Epenots, with 50% whole bunch vinification and 50% new wood. An even crimson purple. The bouquet is less immediate than the Chaponnières but soon starts to climb. There is a fine structure to the darker fruit, black raspberry and indeed blackberry, refined high class tannins, lowish acidity but the structure works very well as it is. Drink from 2032-2040. Tasted Nov 2024.
