Decanter
Review Date: 01/2025Boasts pronounced aromas of ripe pear, passion fruit and grapefruit, with notes of smoke, white flowers and spice. On the palate, the wine has impressive density and lovely length. Very crisp and clean, but there is a power here as well. The grapes from Alvina's share of the family's 1ha of vines are slowly pressed, briefly settled, fermented and aged in mostly used casks on the lees, but without batonnage.(CC)

Pale colour. Much more class on the nose, the Clos des Folatières is really quite striking. Though not managed by Alvina and Philippe, there are some yellow touches to the fruit which retains a core of white orchard fruit with good acidity, but overall the Clos des Folatières indicates optimum ripeness, class and length. Drink from 2028-2035. Tasted Oct 2024.

The 2023 Puligny-Montrachet Clos des Folatières 1er Cru comes from the Pernot family, located on the lower part of the slope. This has wonderful mineralité on the nose, more than the preceding Les Caillerets, with scents of shucked oyster shell and sea cave. The palate is very well balanced, cohesive and poised, with fine acidity and a little spice toward the lingering finish. Excellent.(NM)

This is the first wine in the range to display any appreciable reduction and it's enough to push the fruit to the background so if you're going to open a bottle young, leave a few minutes to allow it some air. By contrast there is excellent verve to the beautifully textured, if less concentrated, middle weight flavors that exude evident minerality on the lingering and balanced finale that would also benefit from developing better depth.*Burghound Outstanding!*
Notes
Bill Nanson Burgundy Report: "Airy, clean nose – very faintly floral. Hmm, juicy, fleshy citrus. Finishing dreamily – yes!"(01/2025)
